Conferences and letters used up the
whole night and I did not get to
bed till 7 a.m. of Wednesday.
19 January, Wednesday. (Written 22°)
Another day of bad weather,
keeping the party from starting and
enabling me to do some more of the ne-
cessary writing without feeling that
I was delaying the men's journey -
Temperature -5°. Snowy, thick.
Windy outside the igloo. I was up
at 9 o'clock, but later made up some
of my sleep. Very hard to work in an igloo with
so many people around.
20 January Thursday (Written 22°)
Weather colder and clearing. Party
decided could start. Temp -15°. No-
wind by noon. Finished letters and
cables and to N.Y. Tribune, but failed
to write to Reeds as intended or to Ros
nursing I am sorry to say-.
