Said that I would prepare and leave in his care a letter for each of the three men of my party - Languary, Green and Allen - authorizing him to continue the journey in case of my disablement and guaran- teeing the payment of expenses by the Museum. Evening - game for matches. Work on letter of final instructions & to Mr Millers. Midnight - chocolate and hard tack to usher in the New Year, with a round of Canadian Club to his health and happiness. 1916 January. Saturday. Clear, cloudless or almost cloud- less, calm.
