By section 83A of the Fisheries Act 1908, a tourist fishing licence: (a) Authorises the holder to take acclimatised fish in any waters in New Zealand, except the waters to which Part I of the Maori Purposes Act 1959 (re- lating to Lake Rotoaira and part of the Poutu Stream) applies and any other waters that are not for the time being open for fishing. (b) Is subject to the provisions of other regulations imposing restrictions on times, methods, and places of fishing, and on the fish that may be taken and to modification notices issued by the Minister of Marine under those regula- tions. The regulations which will apply, according to the waters in which the holder of the licence is fishing, are the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1951 (S.R. 1951/15), the Rotorua Trout Fishing Regulations 1963 (S.R. 1963/96), the Taupo Trout Fishing Regulations 1963 (S.R. 1963/97), the Southern Lakes Fishing Regulations 1951 (reprinted S.R. 1955/190), and any amendments of any of those regulations, and any other regulations applying to other particular waters. (c) The holder is not entitled to fish in any experimental waters for which a permit is necessary unless the holder of the licence also holds an appropriate permit. (d) The holder is qualified to apply for a permit under Part I of the Maori Purposes Act 1959 to fish in Lake Rotoaira and the part of the Poutu Stream to which that Part applies.
