clay soil overlying lime
stone, outwash plain
at foot of Elburz Mts,
about 1900 meters elev.
Flowers mostly 25-40
to a head, ochroleucous,
after ninth lavender-purple
anthers. Involutural
bracts about 50-70 to a
head. Achenes angular-
-roughened, dentate at the
summit, and with a pappus
of coarse, deciduous bristles.
