Dear Church Farm, 14 mi N of Gore Oct 7, 1978 he went back to the area where we got 5' fish last time, but it didn't work out that way at all. The weather was pretty, the folks were friendly, the August steers were cuddly, but the trout were coy, he saw plenty of fish in flat water and a few of them did a bit of feeding. But in the riffle area there was no trace of action. The result was that we didn't catch one golden trout between the three of us. he camped under the same willow tree as last time and had a lovely lunch with a good cool bottle of Montana Blenheim wine. But after lunch we drove home and spent the late afternoon in luxurious showers, gear tinkering, note writing and napping. As we left the stream we came across two tiny, nearly-hatched chicks of the spur-winged plover. The finches were raising hell overhead as we caught the two kids and took pictures. After dinner we geared up for a return try at the gravel pit area. I explored about 1/2 mile of stream front near the gravel area and didn't locate any good fishing spot other than the flat pool where Woody had struck yesterday. he fished until dark without anyone getting a strike. went home to our quarters and poured a few good stiff drinks.
