2 sprigs 3 s-w teal 1 gadwall Saverson Jan 10, 1978 Broken clouds, good south breeze, and 25 degs, yet we had scarcely a notable flight. In no 4 blind I had all the shooting, consisting of shots at a single red a pair of sprigs, a little bunch of gadwall, and several teal. I shot well and came in with six mixed ducks. Dennis started in #5, moved to #2, and quit at 10:00 without a duck, after taking two desperate shots at sprigies. Yet there were plenty of birds in the country - lots of sprigs and lots of geese going up and down the valley high. Only some hunters were rising in the corn to the south of us. Everyone else seemed to want to go elsewhere. As #4 I had an unending parade of sprigies zooming back and forth at lighting in the breeze. The handsome drakes are in full plumage now, I see signs of courtship too - bowing and chasing on the water. From time to time a country pair of sprigs or wildgoose would go by, originating on the main Silvero pond where no one shot today and a mob of birds were concentrated. After lunch Dennis took Dorie Cox out a great pleasant hunting but I demurred - Too damn much mud and heavy walking for me. Drove home via Thirday Road at Stovins packing house where I ordered some meat.
