5 sprige
Dorensen
Oct. 26, 1977
As record choice I went to #4 and was
not sorry. Fed in #2 ad I got all the shooting,
as sometimes happens on a SW breeze. Blinds 5
ad 6 got essentially no action.
Between 7:00 ad 8:15 birds showed real
attraction to the #4 corner of the pond. I had
good action ad shot well - 5 birds with 8 shells,
finishing off with a very big double. I called
Hennis over from #5 as I cleared out, but
not another bird came. He did not fire his gun.
The total flight Today was about the lightest
I can have seen here. Very few high overhead
flocks. More midgem than on the week-end
but still 50% sprig. Very few shovelers or teal.
No geese at all. A few canvasbacks.
Best news - The snipe are starting to arrive.
I saw flocks of 6 ad 8, ad a few singlers
circling around, ad Hennis gunged three as
he came out diagonally across the S end.
We may have enough for a shoot soon.
There are some big groups of curlews gathered
on pasture being irrigated. A few yellowlegs
ad dowitchers too.
Home early in the afternoon. No birded count
since we used a different route.
