Sogheim June 10, 1979 Went fishing 10 AM till noon to see if maybe the fish would show with the sun. No such luck - I didn't see a single fish rise. But I brought up some little yellow perch to a dry fly and kept just - 7 to 10", rainbow & trout. After a long nap we worked on Betty's doll house kit. Dr Tosh help the afternoon to read and understand the directions. Among the hummingbirds we see some male calligees every day, but no male refoms. We are several weeks earlier this year than usual. Maybe that explains the presence of males which normally are gone by late June. A red-breasted sapsucker has a nest hole in the "spire" across the creek, where flickers built last year. An olive-sided flycatcher also decorates the spires. Abundant sign of meadowlarks along the streamside dry meadows - must have been a peak year. Dug up one nest and it had been occupied by a mouse. June 11, 1979 Cut wood, built furniture for Betty's miniature country store, and otherwise frittered the day away. Located the robin nest NE of the camp beside the pool - four gamboling youngsters stick their heads up each time a parent arrives. Worked on Sxhe's retrieving - perhaps a little better than it used to be.
