Bills Mar 31, 1979 (cont.) Lion followed him to the mouth. When he rolled out the lion jumped on him and took off. Next morning he returned with friends at a lot of age. He rigged a heavy rope 32 ft. At bottom, and < young man went down hard over hard. All dogs were still alive but "pretty well stone in". One by one they were hoisted out in a sling. Under the dogs were the mummified bodies of two lions, several javelina, & assorted rattlesnakes that had died in this trap. In time all dogs recovered. One of the friends is going back with dynamite to close the mouth of this dangerous tunnel. After coffee with the Smiths we went up to the Bile Cliff Dwelling National Monument and climbed up to inspect the remains, abandoned apparently by 1200 AD. Left the parking lot at 5 PM and started home for Las Cruces. Stopped for a bite of supper in a quaint little mom-and-pop cafe in Hillsboro. Saw three mule deer doer beside the road on the way down, very pretty views of the Black Mtn. Range as we succeeded.
