hunt Reg Barrett 11 ducks 4 Voluse pheasants Sprouson Farms Oct 21, 1978 he exercised the solemn ceremonies of opening the duck season - moved into our rooms, last minute adjustments in blinds & decoys, lots of drinks and a big steak dinner (my deer), and finally out to the blinds before daylight. Pretty fair flight for about ten hours in which Reg Barrett and I took 10 snipe and a widgeon. She worked very well - we never did leave the blind, he retrieved them all including a couple of ducks. Hunted pheasants after lunch and found a lot of wild turkey in the hot corner - between me and about a dozen of which only two were liberated. Too damn hot to hunt very long so we quit early, had a shower and a nap. Steak dinner and looked jotted over. Oct 22 Flights on Sunday was pretty light, despite a brisk SW breeze. I had action down at #4 but couldn't hit them. Jed limited in #2, Dennis got a bird or two in #6. Very few snipe on the marsh yet - not enough to make it worth a hunt. Lots of other shore birds though including far more yellowlegs than I ever recall seeing. Some stilts, avocets, and of course dowitchers. Saw 3 herons coming in Sunday and 3 going out Sunday.
