mouth of Parana River, junction Waiapu (15) Feb 17, 1978 Thuray took us to the mouth of the Parana and we had the jackpot. He walked Ted and Woody to the jetway where the river empties as each of them took a brownie currying in the still water. I fished near the Land Rover upstream and landed a nice lively female brown, 21", 3 1/2 lbs., very deep and fat. She jumped several times and gave a good account of herself. He assembled for lunch at a picnic spot (table, fire, etc.) bellow the bridge at Ted hot tea along with the very ample supply of goodies packed by the hotel. After lunch Woody fished upstream, Ted as I worked a riffle below the lunch spot. Ted ran into a jacket of rainbow and landed three, but one that just plain outran him (a two pounder). He then called me over and I caught me. One of Ted's was two pounds, the other were all one to 1/2 pounds, but very lively. These small rainbows gave more fight than the biggest brown, with lots of jumping and long runs downstream. We ended the day with 9 fish - our best record to date. Stopped at the heliport between Napier and Waiapu where the deer are landed. There were 7 or 8 helicopters being serviced, a nice stainless steel refrigerated receiving station, but no deer in it - all sent on to Rossburn for processing.
