Huber Journal 1964 Nov 23. At sea. With A set-up like this one could really raise hell with the shorebirds. If I had a set-up on this trip I know I could have band 300 shorebirds. As it was I only got around 80. Golden plover set just fine (about 80% but depends much on the night) Wandering Tattler set OK but one has to be extra quiet. I can't figure Ruddy's. On one Island in the Phoenix group about 80% sat but I have had that happen only on that one island at that time. Every time since then I can hear them jumping in the distance but never can see them. Curlew set just fine and if one goes about it right they can be caught even on a bright night. Nov 24 At sea I just noticed the other day that when Flying fish take off That every time they churn the water while in flight the closer their anal fins and when not churning water they have the fins spread wide all the way till impact. They also flag their wings vigorously when first taking off and they also go in any direction when taking off but soon correct themselves when they discover which way the wind is going.
