"Journal" Feb 21 SAMOA. At this place I saw a noddie colony of about 200+100 Noddies (common) nesting in trees. About 60' tall. The trees grow up A wall which rose at about an 80° angle out of the sea so that some nests were sometimes 500 strait above the water. Weird place for noddies to nest. I would carry to be a chick who could not fly in that colony. Come to think of it, I would hate to be a noddy. Feb.23 SAMOA. Found a starfish on a reef wall at about 15-20 ft. The wall was about 50 ft tall and stopped at 2-4 under the surface of the ocean. The starfish measures 13 inches across, has 10 legs that average 4 ½ " long (Also two bud legs 1" long) by 1½" at base and taper to a rounded point. It has red spines (average 1/4 inch long about 1/8" thick and tapers to a sharp point). Skin of animal is a dark purple. The body (not counting legs) is about 4" across) The tube feet are A transparent yellow. Feb.25 At sea A lot of wedgtails.
