I noticed when I went to bed that the wind
had died, about midnight. It was cloudy all
day & visibility was placid. The temperature
was about freezing. I remained in all day.
Put up the 2 petrol sheds first thing, they did
up nicely which was surprising, but I did
leave the shell + eyes in the smaller one.
I wrote notes in the middle of the day
+ attempted to compile all my band
notes. In late afternoon + evening I put
up 4 skua skins collected a while back.
In late evening went out with Don
Douglast tried to shoot an antarctic
petrel. We walked out among the bergs
a quarter mile from shore. I had 2
shots at petrel, both of which spiled
nothing; though I did last one for what
satisfaction that gives.
Dec. 2 Cape Hallett, Antarctica.
Made a complete round of the
slenary before lunch. In afternoon checked
pairs in penguinery and compiled
skua notes. In evening put up 2
snow petrels. A calm warm day.
Someone said that it reached 33°F
yesterday. It certainly was a change
from yesterday's weather. This is second
time the temperature has risen above 32°F
