Journal.
base by 4 P.M.
Drove doubling over as we arrived &
the wind began picking up. By late
evening the wattle was threatening.
The day however had been warm &
clear & still. A beautiful day. & the country
along the top of the cliffs was magnificent;
this was the finest day we had yet.
On the descent we tried to slide down
the snow slope but it was too
soft for a continuous slide & all I did
was get the seat of my pants wet.
Nov. 30 Cape Hallett, Antarctica.
Wrote up skerry notes of last 2 days
& also petrel notes from yesterday. Finished
cleaning young seal skin & salted it. Bought
in 2 seal skins & salted that also. Made
round of survey between 5-6:45. Finished
upskin after supper. Day was overcast &
warm. Snow falling gently in
morning, large puffy flakes. Wind
came up in afternoon. Is now blowing
a sharp breeze & rising.
Dec. 1 Cape Hallett, Antarctica.
Stellar a gale all day. When I get up at
8:30 the wind was blowing about 30 mph with
quicker squalls into the 40s. It continued this way
until late in the evening with occasional lulls.
