Mabey 1960 Pagodroma nivea not collected. Don found 2 chicks probably from last year which seem good enough to skin. I was there. Also we found old egg. Brought 3 entire ones back with me, One of which cracked & the other 2 were blown. One of these seems to be only one year old & was apparently infertile. The other, several years old contains an embryo & feathers which is now macerating (I hope). Brian has measured the eggs where 3 he brought back. They are: 55.6 x 40.4 Cracked Mabey 52.8 x 40.4 Entire " 54.3 x 39.2 " 53.1 x 40.7 Entire Reid 50.8 x 37.5 Cracked 56.6 x 37.9 [illegible] It was evident that the birds were almost entirely absent. What is more. The absence of sighting of the birds flying over in the past week or more probably indicates that they are not regularly present about the breeding sites as yet but all or most nests had obviously been visited Dec 1 Flock of 80-100 snow petrels flying low over camp. Wind strong from S. Birds heading into the hot moony W. Scores Bay.
