Colours band Pagodroma nivea
Nov.21 descended by the back slope, a comparatively
gentle one, steep but easy walking. There
were many boulders scattered about
& we found that the petrels petrels were
meeting here also. Found 2 in one
burrow which we collected, also saw
a number of other burrows.
Brian & Colin visited Toulles ramparts
also + found similar conditions. i.e
many unoccupied burrows + a few
birds present. They collected one.
Nov.29 Trip to petrelery again, + again to the cliffs
called Prior's Precipice locally. (I hope it
remains local). Sampling again was
along top of cliff on both E & W sides
of it + extending for half mile along it.
Douglas estimate he inspected 70
nest sites. Estimate I saw 40 or
so, a total sample of over a hundred.
We found a bird in nests one of which
Dr. captured. I scared one bird from its
nest + saw another enter a burrow from
which I scared it a little later. Colin+
Brian saw no birds at all in nests.
Birds were definitely scarce than last time.
We saw 4 or 5 in the air total in the entire
day.
Old dead chicks were found again but
