Papodroma nivea Nov. 21 Visited Prioro Precipice today. There is a series of cliffs extending for about a mile along the W. side of Echiet's Inlet. It is one of a large cliffs on that side of the key the other one being referred to as Towles Camparta. These 2 plus the cliffs on Felicite Island are the only main snow petrel habitat here. They are other cliffs on the E. side of the key but they are of volcanic material like cape Nallett and like it do not seem to provide many nest sites for the petrel. To get back to Prioro Cee. I checked the S. most portion which proved to be suitable petrel habitat, climbed a bit about the central portion visited on previous trip here & traveled the full length of the N. most portion. Snow petrels were not in evidence most of the time. We saw only one or 2 in our climb & found none in burrows tho- we must have explored a dozen active nest sites. Very few were seen at other portions of the cliff. The birds simply were not present. On our last visit they were visible constantly in number.
