Maka 1960 Pasodroma nivea. Nov. 9 disturbed, tho they had opportunity to fly off in some instances. They spet an orange colored oil when approached + handled + most were soiled with this as we were also. The quantity they produced was amazing - 2-3 ounces from some birds, one or a produced none to a few drops. No egg were found. The bird seemed more active on its feet than I expected. One member of the first pair found stood on its feet while we photographed the pair + caught it mate. Another pair - beyond arms reach in its burrow stood in the back + climbed out of sight, or tree 40. It was noted that one bird used its beak to get a purchase but they definitely stood for long periods + were able to use the feet with which to climb. Nov.10 Table a walk in the Ata to the cliffs at the cape. This is a mass of congealed lava, 6700 ft above. It is crumbling & Cristalated at the top, estimated at 45-500 feet high. Three snow petrels were seen along the cliffs. One was seen to land + was greeted by the squeaking of another. The call of the species was heard 3
