Catharata maccormicki: Jan 11 Robert Tatus saw a chick killed by a skuua yesterday (Jan 10). He examined the chick immediately afterwards & says that the chick was a healthy one with a full stomach Noted a skuua eating freshly killed, still warm penguin chick. Examination showed it to be healthy looking fat, with a medium full stomach. Hottest feathers were just emerging. Jan 13 Cape Adare Two sets of aerial photos were taken of the adare colony. The first few at 500 feet were too low; the second at 1800 & 1900 feet - this was the majority & included a complete coverage. The latest air photos made on the return were done at 1300 feet. Walks along S. beach at Adare in morning gave 138 adults present in groups of 8,4,34,17,22,14,35±,2,±2.. In late afternoon on the same route I got 132-groups were 5,10,4,7,80(±). Douglas on trip along beach in afternoon counted about 80. On on trip back through the penguinery I noted only 16 skuas 3 of which were near the huts. There are then few skuas in the penguinery
