Catharacta maccormicki: Jan 9 adult makes lunge & it backs off. Makes a lunge toward very young chick being brooded at edge of same colony. Ad lunges & stares, chick backs off 3:40 308 One ad walks around enclosure, feeds on a second carcass, mate eventually flies over & joins it. Finally one flies off across core. 2:42 Ad slows flying from core passes low over 308, circles territory & flies back across core. Sitting ad. gave no notice. Do this at nights? 3:52 Morning 308 ad now present preceding chickadee. Probably from 308. 3:58 Creeping ad returns from W side territory lands by nest then flies in. Feeds chick & flushes out on can. Other ad. flies with enclosure stands present not, chick doesn't beg from it. This ad. leaves next to only one of cans. 4:10 Banded 331 walks over to penguin colony - lunching with neck withdrawn, body elongated a "sneaky" look, gaze at something is chased by ad penguin & decoy. Sets 15 feet from colony. 4:22 Ad of 308, the one standing on can & beside one who fed chick, that suddenly lands at edge of colony some 20 feet from me grabs a chick by neck & tugs it away a foot
