Catharacta maccormicki
Dec. 5 away + forcing bits over its shoulders.
Sometimes I could see what it was, white flecks of something, sometime not.
It seemed to take an instant to locate an object
by some conditions. It did this for a minute,
(favoring its right side), stretched, and then sat
down again on the eggs. Unbanded stood
nearby peering; did nothing.
2:30 has been here since my arrival.
One or nest with mate sitting 12 feet
from the nest.
2:04: L is situated 15 feet NW of nest.
This has been his station all along.
11:02 Two slams swooped to within
10 feet of p. 204, neither made a move.
11:10 Witnessed a nest relief ceremony
in p. located between I + J. When first
noticed the darker member of pair was standing
facing away from nest & was forcing objects
over its shoulder. Light member was in
choble posture when just seen + then sat on
the nest in exaggerated fashion, squirmed
from side to side. Dark kept up the forcing
for 3 minutes or more, slowly moving until
he was 3-4 feet away. It favored its right
side. Light got up once, turned about 60° and
sat + wriggled again. Light repeated this a
minute or 2 after dark stopped forcing.
