Catheracta macroura Nor.18. Call given by one slena when I disturbed A while incubating was as follows. The bird gives a whinnying call which often starts with a low "u" and then ends in a high pitched whinny, like so "u" later the bird dropped the "u" and gave only the latter part of the call, comes in pitch, 4-6 syllables "u" "u" "u" "u" "u" "u" guttural with a high pitched component at the same time, the bird warbles between the 2 extreme & usually ends in a high tune slightly drawn out. A rather elaborate description probably worthless & taken from member of pr 78! Arrived slavely 3 PM. One Y-0 off rest joined with at mound remained 3 + 4 minute then 2 RT Y-0 flew back began incubating. 301 percent sitting, alone. 3:20 RT 0-y returns & lands by mute. Immediately begins to arguegate. My morning to get movie camera stopped them & they both set down; 3:30 RT 0-y flies off. Saw an interesting list of behavior. In distant p. On ground, one pr challenging third bird member of neighbor pr I believe. It receives wrap as if in challenge, thrusts head forward the ways they do in starting an attack.
