Catharacta maccormicki Nov. 12 3:15 Group of shaws flew low over. Both announced. I started close call. I got up - began walking to him. She sat left from him. He continued, she got up walked but looked at very expected call as she approached. He moved that + she sat in nest. & they sat. (Bl + white picture.) A moment later they challenged once again the D gave full challenge, female only call. At a more distant territory the pair was present. A third bird landed. Both displayed at him. He stood his ground + walked off as they came toward him. Finally flew. Some of this is the posture he assumed when he displaying birds be adopted to Upright head + neck tall + feathers sleeked, Body gave aspect of attention stance wings at carpal joints held out just slightly. He oriented his body so that generally, except when they forced him to move he was facing them at 45° & he even sidled away from them oriented that way on unless they molested him. Saw no "turning away" of head.
