Oct. 31 Hallett Station, Cape Hallett, Antarctica.
Arrived yesterday Oct. 30 at 12.40 P.M.
I should before proceeding with a description
of this station make a few notes on the
trip down line day by day.
Oct. 22. Sat. Left Travis Air Force
Base at 10:30 A.M. via Mats. Flew
to Honolulu, landed at Wilkam Field
near Pearl Harbor. Actually landed
at the civilian air strip nearby +
topped for 15-20 minutes to the
MATS Terminal at Wilkam. The flight
took (10-10.5) hours. Landed after
dark so that I saw nothing of the
islands from the air.
Honolulu was hot & humid, should
have brought short-sleeved shirt + light
pants for the stay.
Left on next leg of journey the
following day at 2:30 P.M. (Oct 23).
Took a picture of field as we boarded
or a couple from the air after take-off.
The flight to Christchurch, New
Zealand took 24 hours. We made
2 stops, at Canton Island & Fiji.
Both stops were made after dark-
so that I have no impression whatever
of what the islands were like.
