Muley 1960 Catharacta maccormicki Nov.7 number of birds about then there were several days ago and the birds seem a little more cautious. I found I could get to within 6 feet of some birds before they would move off, walk off rather than fly. As yet the birds haven't manifested any hostility towards me except an occasional challenge that I think is directed towards me. Nov.8 Hallett. Arrived in Steaney at 1:45. Stopped a few minutes on edge of penguin rookery where 2 pr. slnas are located. Established myself in some spot in rock Steaney. In one (see map left) 20 feet apart. Strange slnas - color my bonded landed near one. It didn't challenge or respond. Second of a got up, stood tall & walked over to where they stood. Head tall & shimmied wing carpal, slightly raised chest right out. Looked red fresh. Outsider in bundled for second retreated along to first pair member. Finally when Second got to within 2 feet it flew off. No vocal sound on either part 2:35 Bird (balled) flew by w penguin egg held in beak. Land upon ice logs from shore. Joined stone by a bird from the slnas. Challenged it as it landed.
