Maker 1960 Catharacta maccormicki 14 Nov. 4 Nallit Station, antarctica Arrived Skuary at 10. A.M. Prior to leaving Camp I saw a pair of slender copulati on the ice, 100 yds behind the mice hell. ? or ? who stood, ? called copulation call. ? reached up + poked at his beak 2 or 3 times without nearing up + unseating him. (former possibly a stunt indicating still antegomestic feeling towards prospective mate - displaced.) He finally hopped off. A few seconds later I saw that they were at it again this time ? was sitting. ? was successful 2x judging by spasmodic sag of wings so they appeared to make contact. Side wagging of tail just before contact seen. Meanwhile back at the skuary. Flare camera set near 3 skuero. The two setting 1 foot apart & a 3 & 7 feet away 10:50. ? copulated at 5. end Skuary. Complete. ? remained standing in what is best described as the hunched posture. Norgonta lead with drawn [illegible]. As ? made contact she again opened her bill + reached up at his mouth 11:35 Single bird has been setting 30 feet from me all along. Another bird came, circled low over it & made
