14abu 1960 Catharacta maccormicki Nov.3 the noise are coming from the pair being watched. Another pair who went through the ritual. Material brought up was a black oily looking stuff. Both ate snow afterwards. Sat. P1 sitting close near foot of slope. Strange bird came in across rilet made low pass stone, arched around+came in for second then 3rd pass. circle 50 yds in diameter. They made 4th pass- shelled right back for a 5th. Landed 25 feet away. Heard more each time he went on - cant tell if he hit - he did- because he just did it again + hit rock mated with marble level + went off with leg hanging - made 2 more circles + Deviated on last circle, he didn't come as low. His swoop seemed aimed always at one member of pair + always same one. P1 responded by challenge call but only one, the struck one raised wing in challenge display. All is quiet now. The pair has walked 10 just to slope + site yard apart - attacked into alone where he landed 40 feet away. 2:10 Single bird flies in. Not much challenged lands at S. and sherry gives challenge
