Mabey 1961 Macronectes giganteus Jan 23 The four giant petrels shot at cape Adan were slimmed out today. Two were old birds (one sawn heel and went to DSD) + 2 were slimmed. 1717: General body moult. Broad patch present replacing about periphery Tail not moulting though covert, upper, were being replaced. Primaries 4,5,6 were coming in. 4 was smallest. <2 inches. (Primaries counted from outlook in). 7,8+9 were new. 1718: General body moult. No broad patch. Primaries 3,4,5 growing. 3 smallest. Remendes already replaced. Central 2 Tail feathers already just coming in. 1719: General body moult. Broad patch present replacing at periphery. Primaries 6,5,+ 6 coming in as above. - Chelated. 1720: General body moult. Primaries 3+4 coming in - Remendes replaced. Toppeaul fully grown.
