Maly 1960 Thalassornis antarctica Dec 1 This species was seen here for the first time this year today. A 30 knot gale was blowing since the night before from the SSW. The birds were first seen about 18PM when a flock of 60 or 70 was seen just off camp in the middle of Echota Inlet. Another flock of 30-40 birds was seen later. smaller groups of 5-15, or 20 were seen about later. I suspect that these birds were breaking up into small groups and then regrouping into large flocks so the total number about about was probably under 100. A few snow pitches were with them.
