Five other apparently started out but turned about + came back in with some new arrivals. Dec 5 First penguin chicks were found on this date. Jan 24 Shinned gosling #1713, general body moulting occurring, at least quills of new feathers were growing + covered entire body. Important point was that chin + throat feathers & papillae of new feathers were not pigmented while those on head of similar age were burning with melanin. Feb 6 Penguin number took a big drop last night. They have been declining steadily but a noticeable difference observed between yesterday + this morning. Those that remain are mostly chicks + few ad. DSP found dead with white eye rings.
