Oct 31 Cape Hallett Station.
The following are notes on penguins
from Robert Thompson, the station chief
here some last year.
Sept. 10, 1960 first few adelie penguins
returned to spit. (2).
Oct. 10, 1960 - 5 penguins
Oct 11, 1960 - penguin count 11
Oct 12 - " " 21
Oct 13 - Adelie count 131 at
mid-day. Penguins observed in steady
procession approaching spit from
around Cape Hallett. Est. over 300
by evening.
Oct 14. Douglas returned (End Thompson)
Oct. 31 First egg reported by Gordon Cartwright.
Nov. 1 Check through rookery by Dr. Fella,
C. Bailey + myself in A. 11. revealed
10 eggs seen by all of us. A big influx
of Adelie is still going on. They are
running by hundreds every hour from
around the cape over the ice.
Nov. 3 Penguins still seem to be arriving in
reduced numbers. according to Bryan
Leid there are also some, 24, beginning
to depart.
