Maker 1961 Journal April 11 When we left on the 5th. The admiral remained behind anyway. Illness of a Russian scientist at Byrd station make a flight to the continent necessary and he remained behind for that. Also as of that date the Edicks was still down there - near Cape Adare struggling north with one screw damaged. I presume it has gotten broke alright as no word has been seen in the local press. The flight to Honolulu was made with a one hour stop at Canton Island. We landed about 10:40 on the same date we left N.Z. The flight took about 24 hours. Spent 24 hours in Honolulu. Much cooler less humid than last stay. Fixed car? Donald Douglas drove about a little so I could see something of the island. Flight to California took 10 hours. Landed at Alameda Naval Base. Dick & Halma & Dave Mullen met the plane. Fin.
