Male 1961 Journal Jan 28 Cape Hallett, Antarctica. The day was clear, sunny, a slight breeze was blowing in the morning + this continued all day. I spent the morning scraping a penguin chick slime & finishing putting them up. A complete round of the slurry was made in the afternoon + 14 or 20 chicks were banded. This seems to wind up the banding almost. One chick I did not band was one which flew off at my approach, the only flying chick I have seen so far. Jan 29 Cape Hallett, Antarctica. Sunday. Made a round of my enclosures cleaning out the snow + putting the chicks back in - at least those which had escaped. The day was cloudy + a breeze sprang up in mid afternoon. Light snow fell. Jan 30 Cape Hallett, Antarctica Not much accomplished today. I weighed and measured a series of 10 full sized chicks (penguin) + killed (to help of PSD) 6 adult penguins. Shinned out the chin- strap penguin + three of the adult adelie's. Jan 31 Cape Hallett, Antarctica. Shinned the last 3 adult penguins + scraped + salted 2 of them. There is a road block in this program in a shortage of salt.
