Journal Jan 14 The Captain, the information officer, & one other member of the crew came aboard when we were taken off. The ship put off at one for Hallett, at 12:30 or so we were 7 miles off the beach & the helicopter was loaded. Because of lack of ice pans however they were not allowed to fly until we were only a mile or so from the beach. Again the pilot allowed me to take a series of shots. Light was dim but I hope the pictures do come out? Today has been wasted. I wake up at 10:30, fed the alene & after lunch read my mail. That's the only pilot accomplishment. This evening word came that Brian Reed had discovered a shrubbery at Adare, presumably on top of the cliff, and had found 120 nests. So end our perfect day. Adelie penguins were on the average a week ahead of those at Hallett. They were also much more aggressive & inclined to attack & flipper one at a time from distance of 15 feet or more. Lt, jg. Tom.
