Mabuy 1961 Jan 14. Journal neats. Hence we concluded that the shores were nesting in small numbers in case of the cliff were nest sites were provided by the topography. I felt we had covered 2/3 of the cliff area not inhabited by penguins fairly well & that even considering that we had thus only gotten 20% of the neats a pop. of 50 nesting pair was indicated. I was wrong as we shall see. Anyway we descended the cliff & sat the tent had a can of fruit. Donald & I shot 2 great fulmars after lunch & I went off on another traverse through penguinery where I spent the next couple hours. About 6:30 we saw the ship approaching & soon the helicopter arrived. The above is a brief resume of what was done at Adare. The following are a few- impresions. The Adare rookery is immense compared to Hallett. The area of beach I would judge to be 4 x that at Hallett. There are several large ponds on the beach which reduce the total area inhabited considerably. Penguins seem more densely & evenly distributed there are no large habitable areas for penguins as there are at Hallett except along the beaches themselves. I noticed
