Maker 1961 Journal. Brothered me all day + in the evening I was again put on the hot moist bandage routine. I got little accomplished slept a 3 hour watch at the nests 331+308. Jan 5 Cape Hallett, Antarctica. Spent most of the day in bed resting the hand. This done on doctors orders. [illegible] suggestion. I spent the morning up while the hand dried out from last nite. The heating pad + bandage were on it all night + it looked a wreck when unbundled in the morning. After lunch however it was put back on & I dozed away the time trying to read. What a day. I did get up for supper but that was all. Jan 6 Cape Hallett, Antarctica. The heat treatment had done little for the hand. The Dr. bandaged it up + offered the opinion that there might be a fracture involved. I am to go out to the Eastwind & have it x-rayed. In the evening he sprung a surprise on me. If no concrete diagnosis results from the X-ray he wants to send me to NZ on the boat. What a blow. The hand + arm still bother me. I did make a round weighing my chicle but that was about all.
