HERBARIUM SPECIMENS
Collected by I.W.Bailey, July 15-September 2, 1920, Bartica District (at
junction of Essequibo, Cuyuni and Mazaruni rivers) British Guiana.
(1) 15-VII-20. Cecropia species P(red-leaved variety).Male inflorescence
from tree 30'high in second growth, at edge cassava clearing,
Barakara. Mature aments cream colored, angular. Young aments greenish,
in reddish or reddish brown, pubescent bract. Aments 14-18, occasionally
forked.
(2) 17-VII-20. Cecropia species P(red-leaved variety). Male inflorescence
from tall tree in old railroad cut, Kartabo. Aments 14-16 with red
core.
(3) 18-VII-20. Cecropia species P. Seedling 3'high. Cassava clearing,
Kartabo. Inhabited by Asteca queens.
(4) 18-VII-20. Cecropia species P. Seedlings from cassava clearing, Kartabo.
(5) 18-VII-20. Cecropia species P. Small plant 6'high of green leaved
variety. Cassava clearing, Kartabo, Inhabited by Astecas.
(6) 15-VII-20. Cecropia species P.(Green-leaved variety). Leaf from 20'
high tree, second growth, Barakara. Leaves not strongly pubescent when
young. Petioles glabrous, green. Tree inhabited by Astecas and Cremato-
gasters.
(7) 15-VII-20. Leaf from similar plant as (6). Inhabited by Asteca.
(8) 15-VII-20. Leaf from similar plant as (6). Inhabited by Asteca.
(9) 15-VII-20. Cecropia species P.(Red-leaved variety). Leaf from 30' tree
second growth, Barakara, Petioles reddish, particularly bases, pubescent.
Inhabited by Astecas and stingless bees.
(10) 15-VII-20. Leaf from similar plant. Inhabited by Astecas.
(11) 15-VII-20. Leaf from similar plant as (10). Inhabited by Astecas.
(12) 15-VII-20. Cecropia species D. Leaf from 20' high tree, second growth
Barakara. Petioles green, glabrous, without trichilium. Tree inhabited
Crematogasters and Solenopsis.
(13) 15-VII-20. Leaf from similar plant.
(14) 17-VII-20. Cecropia species P. Leaves from "stool shoot", small, slender
axis. Railroad cut, Kartabo. Inhabited by Astecas.
(15) 18-VII-20. Cecropia species P. Small plant 3' high. Cassava clearing
Kartabo. Inhabited by Asteca queens.
(16) 18-VII.20. Same, plant 6' high. Not inhabited by ants.
(17) 19-VII.20. Cecropia species P.(Red-leaved variety). Leaf from small
plant 6' high. Cassava clearing, Kartabo. Inhabited by Astecas.
(18) 22-VII.20. Pourouma guianensis ?. Leaf from tree 17' high. Trail, near
Kartabo, in second growth forest.
