12 June, [89]
Maurice arrived with his country people princes,
and his family and friends. He then saw
landing probably an officer in command of
drilled and armed Europeans who scanning the
bayou I had scanned broke out the first glimpse
of the long expected brig bringing supplies from
Europe, Barbados and causing less the [illegible] sailing
more for private schooners should appear to the windward.
Then I literally pictured the scene when Europeans,
and black African slaves, with set faces and hands
defined heads and face were engaged in the fight
which resulted in the beating off the Corsair since
landing on the island would have been followed by
old bloody butchery and fricatrice. Yards,
just outside the frame between the reefs, lay the
Spanish craft with its murderous villains aboard.
The main mast was down with all its shrouds yards
and rigging, and the floats with long canvas were
hacking away at rope and mus to clear the wreck.
The Master of Union, with hands clasped with [illegible]
with a few lumps young fellows, covered with dirt, with
that steam rolled up and prince [illegible] on his
face was thanking his young friend for the luck.
