A peculiarity of Beguina, and also of Union Island, is that the 'Cock-rico' (Ortalis ruficauda) of Tobago are met with in the woods covering the higher peaks. The bird was first noticed in Beguina, according to W Rice about 12 years ago. No one knows how it got into the island. They are very timid birds, and as some attempts to shoot them they are increasing and multiplying.
