St Vincent 112 6 June, 1891. Sunday. As all the gentlemen were in riding costumes the right must have been curious to one looking. When we started back it was late and quite dark. Mr. Austen, a feather ride, passed on with some other ladies after he had passed the swollen river, & they broke into a canter. Soon, Austen struck! I came up to him going sitting by the road side and covered with mud. He had been thrown from heron which had galloped away. Having it was caught by Hardy who sent after it in full tilt, and after which for his front back on his steed he resumed the journey at a quieter pace. His front leg was fractured then hurt. More or less miles before he got to bed after a thoroughly disagreeable outing. 7 June, 1891. Sunday. The day turned out to be a fine one, and Austen and I left after an early breakfast for Keigston, in his carriage with a pair of ponies. The ancient bridle along the river bank and the drive has very pleasant. In few hours; the Saturday before at the foot of the road, we were always troubled by an old tree that fell from her's branch across the path. As we pass opposite the bank he heard an ominous cracking and Austen concluded up the animals, and with shots they just cleared the bank as the live came St Vincent. 113 7 June 1891 crashing down into an avalanche of earth under me. After more seconds we should have had the whole man on top of us. Some time this creature passed through the old town of Calliaqua, and exhibited its faulty character; now produced many dangers on account of the fast firing coal reefs. Hudson has been lying and smelly, so that it is very unhealthy, but there are several good hours in the place, and churches, play houses and stores that are treated. We reach Tom at 10.30 a.m. having been three and half on the journey. After breakfast we got Mr. Adams and have a long chat with him. I went to Berrimulie to consult operate on Mr. Branch who has Epithelioma of the face. I had trouble in consultation and advised the operation. 8 June 1891 Monday. In the afternoon I. Arbys and I get a carriage and cross some cells. We got in the Train on the alternate found, Dr. Will Durant, and the "Angels" top, and after wards Doctor St. Gwett. H.G. Hayle has a fine house at Sim Hill, and he has a nice billiards room which is a great comfort to have in the tropics. I. Arbys, Berritt & I dine at the lake fields in the evening, and have a good time, on W. is a capital host.
