Grenada 19 May, 1891 We passed through very fine sugar estate called 'Burlie's Baiolet', and Orgas informed me that in the old sugar days it was the finest estate in the island. It is now happily being rehabilitated, but large tracts of fine valley land are still uncultivated. Leaving this sugar estate we struck into the mountains again, and before long we came out on the upper road we had passed along in the morning. Before going down to the town he rode on to Richmond Hill, where troops were formerly stationed, and saw the old military buildings. One of the barracks has been converted into a lunatic asylum which he rented. The asylum is under the care of Dr. Mr. McLeod, as he was in town, so I went round the institution with Orgas. The lunatics are taken well care of, and, all things considered, the Asylum is as good home as can be expected in a small island. 20 May, 1891. Wednesday Orgas and I went in the R.M.S. St 'Welltham' to Carriacou to day. He left at 8 am. and steamed out of the cavenage, and along the lee ward coast of Grenada.
