Grenada. 15 May, 1891 more signs than most of I occur in the island. 16 May, '91, Saturday. After a splendid bath and racy breakfast, O.T.S go on outwards again. He visit Mount Rich an estate belonging to a Mr Kent. Mt Rich is not far from Spring bank and it is a very fine cocoa property. Formerly a sugar estate, and some sugar is still made, but it is a black stuff used for consumption in the island and thus it sells well. Old K told me that the dark sugar was liked better by the people, and therefore sold better. Kent is an "educated old fellow." He formerly owned on this very estate he now owns, and has become very rich. His character, I hear, is not held in high estimation, and he has made much of his money in a shady manner. His house is old, in ill repair and dirt, and his speech betrays his low origin. Outside his home is a magnificent Java plum tree, and I collected seeds for Dominica. The old man has some very fine Carib stone implements, and it is undoubtedly in former days a Carib settlement for very many implements have been found there. Old Kent would not part with his implements, so I sketched some of them.
