28 At 10 AM we were
in the mouth of the great
Yangtze and with land
on either side just visible
as the shore is very low. The
mouth is about 20 miles
wide. At noon we reach
Woo-sung th at the mouth
of the Whang- po river on
which Shanghai is located,
12 miles above. Woo-sung
is the anchorage for all large
passenger boats. The trip up
the Whang- po was interesting.
The river is lined by green
fields of millet + rice, The
city presents a good appearance
the tallest buildings are on the
Broad bordering the river. The
climate was quite cool (we
changed our white clothes for dark)
