As we approached Darjeeling the gardens became more numerous + mature & a different type from Bengali made their appearance. They were short + more filthy clothing groups in the mobs + great ladies with jewellery. There were Nepalese + Bhutanese, as Darjeeling's Besides these there were many Tibetans, especially men in the richshow, men here are Tibet. Darjeeling lies on a steep side hill & streets following the contours of the hill & connected with step like side streets. Frost + rain prevailed during the afternoon of first day.
