hind legs were tarsal glands.
The lachrymal pit was deep
but not large & the gland
quite small. The whole
underside of the tail was
covered by a deep brown liver
colored gland nearly to
the tip. I went out
this morning with the
hunters who were accom-
p-anied by 7 dogs, 3 white,
2 gray one & 3 black ones. They
were not able to follow trail
but seemed to depend on
jumping the game. I
dragged my adjutant scent.
Just the first hour both
they dogs were not on its
trail & even my shots did not
bring them. These deer
are bright red as conspicuous,
as elmbok which they
resemble in habits keeping
always in cover. This one
stood in the bush galliside
I cooly away & I hit it
behind the shoulders but
it soon got up & ran down
