shot & remain there only
night, we had a little
rain today,
May 1 We each shot a gorail
today. At my side of the
river in the morning shot a
gorailing which had apparently
upper jaws; the lower one
striking the palate far back so
that the lower lip could not
reach the upper. In the after-
noon I shot a dark & about
3 years old & just reaching maturit.
Getting this one female may 1st
longest shot (500 yards) the
men far away that the men
could not make him out to
be leg or full length on a rock
beneath a pine tree. The
first shot killed him striking
him in the middle of the
back & breaking it.
2 In the morning I took
my two be guides Taw-yi-li
& a villager & proceeded down
the river following the upper
