At 4 P. M. After Office hours Albertson Palmer & I went out to the golf links & played a round. The links are on rolling plains, crossed the raised graves of to chinese & the grounds is this quite rough & full of hazards. Saved to a hole in a good average hero. The Customs Officers, 3 English men & one dane, live here in great luxury, altho their pay is not large. The have horses to ride, shivering dogs, fine houses set in great open compounds for from chinese guarders. These luxuries at home would cost several thousand dollars annually. Their office hours are short, 10 A M to 1 P. M. an hour off for lunch & 2 P. M. to 4 P. M. The rainy season is said to be dreary often but there are sunny spells always when travel or sport is possible.
