weather Dear Mr Packard
24 Specimens.
[25] Went at early daybreak
with Albertsen to hunt
wild red dogs on the slopes of
the large hill just south of the
Custom house only 2 miles
out of town. We saw no
game but Albertsen & Palmer
have both seen a pair here
several different times,
& gotten within 100 yds but
never shot a gun range.
[26] Again I went out for
wild dogs, this time with
Palmer to the same place
but we saw nothing. The
morning was rainy & misty.
At 3 P.M. on driving back
out of Mexican verandah I
saw a red fox running
cross the field which
approached & ran between
Fletcher's house compound &
brewery & hid in some tanbo
near the city wall. A black
dog had flushed the fox some
time before & was following it slowly with
great difficulty & soon gave up
the chase! This is the first fox I
have seen in China.
