Camp in canyon of river at 12,000 feet all,
surrounded by fir forest +
rough limestone cliffs + ridges.
above the camp rose fricked
+ grassy slopes to the sharp
bare peaks above timberline.
Timberline variable highest
trees at about 15,000 feet but
not becoming prostrate shrubs
no meadow on high peaks
or glaciers owing to their
almost vertical slopes. Seen
only in thin streaks. Rock
formation limestone only;
very cavernous, color gray
+ hard. No water in river
driving to porous nature of
rock only when wellington
is present is there water in
the creek near the camp.
